Projects
Plymouth
This is our flagship kelp restoration project where we will be developing the culture (seeding) systems for four - six species of kelp. The kelp will be grown at Marine Biological Association, and will be out-planted within the UK's first National Marine Park.
Brixham
Working with a scallop fishing fleet and a scallop farmer, we are testing to see whether discarded scallop shells can be used the substitute to grow kelp onto. Our ambition is to find alternative uses for a product that would otherwise go to landfill, and to build kelp beds.
Teeside
Following the mass death of crustaceans in the Northeast of England from 2021, we are working with local fishermen to rebuild kelps beds.
Cornwall
With the Marine Biological Association, we will monitoring the survival of transplanted juvenile kelp, 'green gravel' at various locations around Cornwall.
